Very few banjos if any play as they are designed to out of the box. Set up is of paramount importance with banjos. Setup ensures correct string height, correct head tension, easy fingering, optimum tone/volume, & performance with no buzzes or rattles. Unfortunately the set-up procedure is NOT DONE to the majority of instruments sold.
Ask any instructor or professional musician and you will be informed that no set up is the foremost reason why people find it difficult to play & listen to a poorly performing banjo. And ultimately & regrettably cease to play !.
